Funeral Announcement - Roger Clark

Most people within the Suffolk Horse community will have already heard the sad news that Roger Clark has passed away.  He was beloved and respected by all within the Suffolk Horse Society and will be remembered for his inimitable personality and his way with animals.

The funeral will take place at 2pm on Tuesday 18th June at St Mary’s Church, School Street, Stoke-by-Nayland, CO6 4QY.

All are welcome as he was such a big part of the horse world. Please feel free to wear cheerful colours - just not too bright. His favourite colour is cornflower blue so if you would like to add that into your clothing please do.

No flowers please. Donations in memory of Roger can be made to East Anglian Air Ambulance or Macmillan Cancer Support, c/o, Hunnaball of Sudbury, New House, 62a North Street, Sudbury. CO10 1RE. 01787 313303. Www.hunnaball.co.uk

Suffolk Horse Society Chairman, George Paul, said “Roger has done so much to help preserve and promote the Suffolk horse over the past 50 years or so. He was the first Chairman of the Society in 1979, after Sir Robert Gooch stood down. Having done his three years as Chairman, he was then elected President in 1993, a role that he fulfilled with relaxed, extrovert skill.

“He was one of the best men at showing any animal, but particularly Suffolk horses, that I have ever seen. He had a magnetic personality when it came to controlling a difficult horse and showing it off to best advantage.

“Fortunately Roger imparted so much of his skill and knowledge to other people. I believe that he trained well in excess of 20 apprentice farriers, most of whom are still in practice. He taught many people, including me, to drive horses and he was so experienced in veterinary matters that he diagnoses were invariably accurate. So often a horse’s lameness was in the foot, and there was no better man at curing foot problems.“

He will be deeply missed by the Suffolk Horse Society and we are grateful to have had him as a champion of the breed for so many years. If you would like to send condolence cards to his wife, Fiona, you are welcome to send them to the Society office and we will pass them on.

See Our Newest Foals

We, at the Society, are working hard with owners of the Suffolk Horse to encourage breeding in order to increase numbers. With their hard work, dedication and commitment each season brings a ‘crop’ of new foals, from Springtime onwards.

There are now 33 foals!
